Critical Illness Coverage

Wawanesa Life’s Critical Illness coverage can provide protection to eligible Plan Members and their families if faced with a life-threatening illness. By adding Critical Illness coverage to a benefits plan, Employers can provide an additional layer of financial protection to their employees, allowing them to focus on what really matters most.

Our Critical Illness product for Choice plans include:

• May include coverage for Plan Member only or for Plan Member, Spouse and Dependent Children.
• 29 covered conditions
• 16 covered conditions for dependent children
• Maximums based on group size up to $250,000
• Partial Payments
  Some health conditions, while serious, may not generally be considered life-threatening. If an Employee or Spouse is diagnosed with one of the following conditions, they may be eligible for a partial payment of 10% of the total covered CI volume:
  • Coronary Angioplasty
  • Early Stage Prostate Cancer
  • Early Stage Thyroid Cancer
  • Ductal Breast Carcinoma In-situ
  • Early Stage Malignant Melanoma
  • Early Stage Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
• Multiple Event
  Today, more people are surviving an initial onset of a critical illness and can return to work. Multiple Event coverage allows for continued coverage and benefits in the event a second illness occurs at a future point.
• Cancer Reoccurrence
  Individuals diagnosed with life-threatening cancer a second time can make another claim provided it has been 5 years since their diagnosis, and they have not received treatment related to the cancer within the previous 60 months (this does not include preventative medications and follow-up visits with the physician).
