Wawanesa Life’s Accident & Serious Illness Disability program is designed to ensure long duration disability coverage remains available for groups that may not otherwise have access to such coverage.

Accident & Serious Illness Disability Plan Design

• Accident & Serious Illness Disability plans provide access to long duration disability coverage for employer groups or associations of members that might not otherwise have access to affordable disability coverage or be unable to secure disability coverage due to the nature of their business/industry or historical claims experience.
• Accident & Serious Illness Disability plans are structured in a similar fashion to full Long-Term Disability (LTD) plans but provide more limited coverage.
• Eligible claims under the Accident & Serious Illness Disability program are the result of an insured person becoming disabled due to an Accident or a Covered Condition. There are 33 Covered Conditions that cover many “top of mind” illnesses such as Cancer, Heart Attack, Stroke, Major Organ Failure, and more.

Affordable & Stable Disability Costs

• Accident & Serious Illness Disability programs typically cost around 1/3 of a full Long-Term Disability plan.
• Pricing has greater stability than Long-Term Disability.
• Provides the same disability adjudication and disability claims management services as our full Long-Term Disability plans.

This Plan does not provide coverage for certain illnesses and injuries that may be covered in a comprehensive Group Long-Term Disability insurance policy.
